A Pakistani passenger plane with around a hundred persons on board has crashed in a residential area of the southern town of city on said, the country’s aviation authority said.

Images on national TV  showed smoke billowing from where Pakistan  International Airlines (PIA) flight PK 8303 crashed.

“The plane crashed in Karachi. we have a tendency to try to verify the number of passengers however at first it’s ninety nine passengers and eight crew members,” said Abdul Sattar Khokhar, the spokesperson for the country’s aviation authority.

Khokhar added that the craft was on the way to karachi from Lahore.

Other sources put the death toll slightly lower. PIA  spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez said there have been ninety one passengers and seven crew on board,  the flight that lost contact with traffic control simply after 2:30pm (9:30 GMT).

“The last we heard from the pilot was that he has some technical drawback,” another PIA  spokesperson, Abdullah H. Khan, said during a video statement.

 

“He was told from the ultimate approach that both the runways were prepared as to where he will be landing, however the pilot determined that he needed to try and do [a] go-round … it’s a really tragic incident.”

 

A senior civil aviation official told Reuters it appeared the plane was unable to open its wheels before landing however that it absolutely was too early to determine the explanation for the crash.

 

Witnesses said the airliner A320 seemed to plan to land twice or thrice before crashing in a residential area close to national leader International field.

The Pakistani military tweeted that security forces had been deployed to the area and helicopters were being employed to survey the injury and facilitate current rescue operations.

The crash comes just days after the country began permitting industrial flights to resume after planes were grounded throughout a imprisonment over the coronavirus pandemic.

It comes as Pakistanis across the country are getting ready to celebrate the end of Ramadan and also the starting of Eid al-Fitr, with several travelling back to their homes in cities and villages.
